SINGLE CASK, AGED RUM - SPANISH

Crafted by Andalusian distillers at Azucarera del Guadalfeo Distillery— One of Spain’s last traditional Distilleries—this rare Spanish rum is a remarkable aged spirit, bearing the imprint of time, terroir, and craftsmanship.

Distilled in the south of Spain in 2006 and matured for approx. 15 years at origin in Ex Bourbon American oak casks in the temperate, Mediterranean climate of Barcelona, the rum has developed exceptional depth and finesse. The slow coastal ageing allows for a gentler interaction with the wood, resulting in a complex, well-integrated profile that balances vibrant spirit character with refined maturity.

In 2021, the rum was imported into the UK and refilled into Ex Marsala Casks to introduce a different layer of complexity. Marsala, especially the sweeter styles typically used for finishing, brings rich notes of dried fruit, toffee, spiced nuts, and sometimes a touch of savory oxidation.

Organoleptic Evaluation

On the Nose: Deep and opulent with aromas of toffee apple, raisin, and spiced pear. Layers of vanilla fudge, toasted hazelnut, and cinnamon are lifted by Marsala’s signature oxidative tones — think antique sherry cabinets and baked stone fruits.

On the Palate: Velvety and indulgent. The bourbon cask foundation delivers vanilla, oak spice, and caramel, while the Marsala influence brings forward rich notes of fig, date, walnut brittle, and baked apricot tart. A gentle acidity runs through the mid-palate, balancing the sweetness and adding vibrancy.

Finish: Long and warming with lingering impressions of dried fruit compote, nutmeg, and a whisper of dark chocolate. A touch of leathery oak and salted caramel rounds out the experience, giving the finish both weight and elegance.

A sophisticated and uncommon Spanish rum, this 19-year-old expression is best enjoyed neat, allowing its nuanced character and sense of place to fully reveal themselves. This secondary ageing in Marsala cask adds a dessert-like lushness and Old World charm, transforming the rum into a richly layered sipper with both depth and finesse.
