Single Malt, Scotch Whisky - Linkwood 2011

Single Malt, Scotch Whisky - Linkwood 2011

14 YEAR OLD - SINGLE MALT- HOGSHEAD-63.5% ABV

Linkwood is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in Elgin, Scotland, and is currently owned by Diageo. It was founded by Peter Brown in 1821, with production starting in 1825.

The distillery was rebuilt and expanded by his son William Brown in the 1870s and again in the late 1890s under the Linkwood-Glenlivet Company, significantly increasing capacity and In the early 20th century, Innes Cameron became a key figure, leading until 1932. Linkwood was mothballed between 1985 and 1990, then returned to full production in 2008. In 2024, it released the Woven Honor single malt under Diageo’s Orphan Barrel label but the distillery is known for producing elegant, floral Speyside malts, used in blends but increasingly celebrated as a standalone single malt.

After a wartime closure (1941–1945), Roderick Mackenzie managed the distillery, famously insisting that everything—from cobwebs to still shape—impacted flavour. In 1962, the distillery was modernised but maintained traditional equipment shapes. A second site (Linkwood B) was built in 1971, raising total capacity to 2.5 million litres per year.

Nose

Fresh and elegant with classic Speyside delicacy. Initial notes of green apple, soft honey, and pear drops. Mid: Floral notes of chamomile and honeysuckle and deeper notes of Vanilla pods, fresh malt, and a touch of lemon curd

Taste

Fresh and elegant with classic Speyside delicacy.

Entry: Stewed orchard fruits, white peach, and barley sugar

Development: Light oak spice, vanilla cream, and toasted almond

Texture: Medium-bodied with a soft, oily mouthfeel

Finish

Clean and graceful.

Lingering notes of citrus zest, vanilla wafer, and subtle white pepper

Faint grassy dryness fades with a final echo of soft oak

A classic Linkwood: refined, floral, and fruit-forward. The hogshead maturation brings gentle vanilla sweetness and a polished oak frame without overpowering the distillate’s natural elegance. Perfect for those who appreciate subtlety over smoke.
