Single Malt, Scotch Whisky - Glengoyne 2011 – Refill Sherry Butt
14 YEAR OLD - SINGLE MALT - 63.5% ABV
Often referred to as the Highland distillery in the Lowlands, Glengoyne sits just north of Glasgow, straddling the Highland Line — with its stillhouse in the Highlands and its warehouses in the Lowlands. Established in 1833, Glengoyne has built a quiet legacy of unpeated, time-rich whisky — known for its gentle character, long fermentation, and slow distillation.
Unlike most Highland malts, Glengoyne refuses to use peat, instead drying its barley with warm air to preserve its delicate, fruity spirit. The distillery’s meticulous approach includes some of the slowest still runs in Scotland, yielding a rich, oily distillate that responds beautifully to oak, especially sherry casks.
In recent decades, Glengoyne has focused on natural colour, sustainability, and thoughtful cask maturation — producing elegant single malts with a hallmark of apple, almond, and soft spice. It's a whisky for those who appreciate subtlety and refinement over smoke and swagger.
Aroma
Fresh and graceful — opening with baked apple, pear skin, and golden sultanas. Hints of hazelnut, linseed oil, and dried orange peel rest over a base of honeyed malt and faint dusty spice.
Palate
Smooth and elegant with stewed fruits, toasted almonds, and a soft wave of nutmeg. Mid-palate brings red apple, sponge cake, and light cinnamon, wrapped in a polished, silky texture.
Finish
Medium to long, with fading notes of apricot jam, almond biscuit, and delicate sherry warmth. A final touch of malted barley and dry oak lingers gracefully.
A poised and spirit-forward expression of Glengoyne’s unpeated style. The refill sherry butt adds subtle richness without overpowering the orchard fruit and creamy malt character. Understated yet rewarding — a whisky that speaks with refinement and confidence.
