Single Malt, Scotch Whisky - Glengoyne 2011
14 YEAR OLD - SINGLE MALT - REFILL HOGSHEAD 63.5% ABV
Often referred to as the Highland distillery in the Lowlands, Glengoyne sits just north of Glasgow, straddling the Highland Line — with its stillhouse in the Highlands and its warehouses in the Lowlands. Established in 1833, Glengoyne has built a quiet legacy of unpeated, time-rich whisky — known for its gentle character, long fermentation, and slow distillation.
Unlike most Highland malts, Glengoyne refuses to use peat, instead drying its barley with warm air to preserve its delicate, fruity spirit. The distillery’s meticulous approach includes some of the slowest still runs in Scotland, yielding a rich, oily distillate that responds beautifully to oak, especially sherry casks.
In recent decades, Glengoyne has focused on natural colour, sustainability, and thoughtful cask maturation — producing elegant single malts with a hallmark of apple, almond, and soft spice. It's a whisky for those who appreciate subtlety and refinement over smoke and swagger.
Nose
Delicately aromatic, with fresh-cut pear, barley sugar, and soft lemon peel. Underlying notes of meadow honey, wildflowers, and almond cream emerge gently with time.
Palate
Light yet textural — offering flavours of crisp green apple, vanilla wafer, and malted cereal. A whisper of oak spice and citrus zest adds clarity and definition, while the refill cask allows the spirit's purity to shine.
Finish
Clean and medium in length, with fading notes of white peach, soft oak tannin, and a lingering almond-flour dryness.
A beautifully restrained expression of Glengoyne’s unpeated Highland style. The refill hogshead lets the distillate lead, showcasing subtle fruit, soft cereal sweetness, and light floral nuance. A graceful dram — ideal for those who appreciate elegance, precision, and natural spirit character.
