26 Yr Old - Jamaican Rum -Secondary Port Maturation

26 Yr Old - Jamaican Rum -Secondary Port Maturation

SINGLE CASK, AGED RUM - JAMAICA

A true aged, Jamaican rarity with a pronounced depth and richness of flavour and the only cask of its type currently available (and may not be available again).

This rum has been produced at Clarendon Distillery located in the Clarendon parish in Jamaica. Rum production at this distillery has records going as far back as 1794 and have a long standing history of creating Jamaican rums known globally.

This particular rum marque, Monymusk Wedderburn (MMW), has been distilled in large, copper pot stills and is one of the heavier variations of pot still productions used by the distillery. This rum has an average ester count of approx. 290-300 esters per g/hL and is categorised as a "Jamaica Wedderburn" rum and constitutes a Medium pot still run.

MMW is a very typical Jamaican style rum with an abundance of funky fruity flavours, using a combination of light and heavy fermentations that exclude the use of dunder, which is more synonymous with Hampden.

This Rum was distilled in August 1998 and matured in American Oak for 10 years in Jamaica. It was then imported to the UK in 2008 and refilled into American Oak for further maturation until March 2023 where the cask has been refilled into a first fill Port cask which the rum still resides. The casks currently lay in bond in the UK.

This rum shows remarkable depth and richness from nearly two years of secondary maturation. Initially aged in ex-bourbon casks, it was finished in ex-aged Port, allowing rich, fruity port notes to fully integrate with the spirit’s bold character

Organoleptic Evaluation

On The Nose: The aroma is light, very approachable, rich tropical fruit notes, with floral hints, lemon drizzle cake, caramelising sugar and charred oak.

On the Palate: The rum feels less crowded, with pronounced baking and wood spices working through to citrus zest. It feels well balanced on the palate with wood and rich tropical fruit complexity, grilled banana and chocolate flavours develop.

The Finish: The finish is of good length, influenced by the tropical fruit and charred oak notes from the nose, with lingering hints of banana and spice, smooth finish with a touch of chocolate, caramel, vanilla and coconut notes.

Please note that specific tasting notes may vary slightly depending on the cask selection and individual palate.

Price Per LPA = £166.00

Estimated total cost @ 130 LPA per cask = £21,580.00.
